If you’ve been to one of my signings you’ve probably heard me talk about music. You may have heard me mention that Legend’s character was inspired by the Fall Out Boy song Centuries, or that when I wrote Caraval I wanted it to feel like a Baz Luhrmann movie meets a Florence + the Machine song.

The world of Caraval was definitely influenced by music. So I am thrilled to finally share my musical playlist!

For those of you who’ve asked me about this in the past, thanks so much for your patience as I put it together.

I hope you enjoy it! xo—SG

The Day After Caraval

Hey, friends! It’s been  FullSizeRender 11awhile since I’ve posted–I’ve been busy working on my next book, but I wanted to take a break from that to share some really exciting news.

I’m headed to BookCon, TLA Annual, and Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego as part of Roshani Chokshi’s A Crown of Wishes Tour.

Lots of you have been asking when I’ll come to NYC, so I was thrilled when they invited me to be a part of BookCon. I don’t have the full schedule yet, but I know for sure I’ll be there on Saturday, June 3rd.

Before that I’ll be at Mysterious Galaxy with Roshani Chokshi and Cindy Pon. So if you’re in the southern California area, come hang out with us on April 1st at 2pm.

And for all the amazing librarian’s out there, I’ll be at ALA Annual on Friday, April 21st!

I’m super excited about all these events, and I really hope to see some of you there!

It’s Eleven daysJenny Bentuntil Caraval releases, so I thought it would be fun to share a little bit about how it sold. This picture is one of my favorite screenshots—it’s also one of the happiest memories of my life.

For those of you who don’t know Jenny Bent (the awesome woman in the picture) she is my literary agent, and she sent me this DM the morning after she’d first sent Caraval to editors. I remember shaking as I messaged Jenny back to ask what had happened. Then I started crying as she told me that one of the editors she’d sent the manuscript to read it the very same night and loved it. And this was my dream come true moment.

I wrote five books before Caraval and I remember literally having dreams that someone had read one, loved it, and wanted to publish it. They were the happiest of dreams, and then I would wake up tangled in my sheets and with an email box full of rejections.

Caraval was going to be the last book I wrote. When I first wrote it several people thought it was a mistake—I was told fantasy was a dying trend, my first chapter was too odd, books that had any type of circus theme were difficult to sell. So even thinking about this moment now brings me to tears. I didn’t end up selling the book to this editor, but I will be forever grateful that she gave me this magical, wondrous moment. And I will forever love my agent as well—once a book sells people talk a lot about their editors and their publishers, but my agent, Jenny Bent, has been just as big of a champion, and I am so very thankful for her.

There’s something magical about the number twelve. Twelve months in a year. Twelve numbers on a clock. Twelve days until Caraval will be released in both the US and the UK and my dreams will finally come true!

So this is when I take a moment to shamelessly remind everyone that there is still time left to pre-order!  Pre-orders are so important for authors–and I will love you forever if you preorder. To make this deal even better, both my US and my UK publishers are offering some amazing gifts, which you can check out here for the US and here for the UK.

If you’d like a signed copy of Caraval, those are available too! Kepler’s Books, who is hosting my launch party, has signed and personalized copies up for pre-order here. These books will also come with a limited addition gift, exclusive to Kepler’s–but you have to preorder if you want it. Thank you all so very much! xo
